The Society was set up as a charity in 1983 for public benefit with the following purposes:-
- To promote high standards of planning and architecture in and around the areas of Newport and Nevern.
- To secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historic or public interest in the area of benefit.
- To educate the public in the geography, history, natural history and architecture of the area of benefit.

In addition, the Society’s Constitution states the Society may:-
Act as a co-ordinating body and to co-operate with local authorities, planning committees, and all other statutory authorities, voluntary organisations, charities and persons having aims similar to those of the Society. The Society has no political or religious activities and is non- profit making.
Generally, the Society has a committee comprising six local residents from the two areas. We are looking for more help to assist run the group. – please do get in touch if you can help!
